Nikkei declines as exporters sold on stronger yen
(Updates to opening) TOKYO, May 9 - The Nikkei share average fell 0.22 percent on Tuesday as exporters such as Canon Inc. (7751.T: , , ) and Kyocera Corp. (6971.T: , , ) faced selling on the stronger yen. A strong yen is a minus for companies that make the bulk of their sales outside of Japan, as it eats into profits when earnings from abroad are brought home. The Nikkei <.N225> was down 39.01 points at 17,252.66 as of 0005 GMT. The TOPIX index <.TOPX> was down 0.18 percent at 1,751.80.
